When we look at our tech workforce, we see stark gender and racial disparities. To build a more equitable tech sector, we need to examine K-12 classrooms and college campuses. Research shows that inequitable access to STEM courses, as well as educator bias about students, all play a role. In this session, we will (1) look at STEM through an equity lens, (2) explore equity gaps in access and disparate impact on student achievement, and (3) look at several bright spots in K-12 and higher education and offer recommendations to school and district leaders and policymakers.
